Chapter One
Lily leaned against the wall, her heart beating hard. Listening to the conversation going on inside the room, she couldn't have mistaken those voices.
"What if I am going to marry her soon? It's not like I love her. You will always be the girl in my heart."
"But why does she get to marry you and not me? We can just get rid of her and seize her inheritance. It is not like she can do anything to stop us."
"Hey, Dear, relax. You know we can't do that easily. Let's just follow your father's orders. After the wedding, I might as well get rid of her."
The shock hit her like waves, sending her staggering back. Her hands flew to her lips, suppressing the gasp that was about to escape. Hearing the conversation between her cousin sister and fiance, suddenly her reality shattered.
"Who is there!"
Her movement must have caught their attention as the guy yelled out from the room. Lily could hear their footsteps approaching the door and her eyes darted around the long hallway.
Before they could open the door from the inside, she took to her heels and hurried down the hallway without any sense of where she was going.
She had been wandering in this hotel for some minutes now, trying to locate the room assigned for her and Clark. Their wedding was in three days, and all the celebrations were going to take place in this hotel. Never did she expect to walk into this scenario. Clark and her had been engaged for three years. Sara was the closest to her among her cousins… But now…
Lily's heart tightened, her eyes welling up with tears. Through her blurry vision, the hallway stretched far ahead and she could barely make out the elevator doors.
"Lily, stop right there." She could hear Clark's hurried footsteps behind her. The guy was dangerously closing in on her, and her legs were too weak to carry her far.
"Dammit! You must stop her, Clark!" Sara raised her voice in a shrilled panic. Watching the girl run away, she wondered if she had found out.
Sara gritted her teeth and balled her fists. A look of irritation flashed in her eyes. On second thought, she stopped Clark from going after her by grabbing his arm.
"Since she has heard our conversation, there's no use in stopping her. How about we send the bodyguards after her?"
The guy looked conflicted. Lily was now far ahead. She had almost reached the elevator.
"If we send the bodyguards after her, isn't it going to alarm the security?"
"So what!?" Sara snapped. "We must get rid of her as soon as we can! If that girl happened to hear our conversation, do you think she can still trust us?"
"Stop jumping to conclusions." Clark wasn't sure if Lily had heard them or not. "That girl is so stupid, I don't think she's a threat to us."
"Just bring out your damned phone and call the bodyguards!"
…
Instead of the elevator to take her to the down floor, Lily found herself standing on the hotel's rooftop.
Due to her frantic state, she didn't know which buttons she had pressed. How funny. This hotel was in her name, yet, she felt like a caged prey right now, surrounded by predators.
Lily had a feeling that Clark was still coming after her. When footsteps came behind her, she had nowhere else to run to.
On turning around, however, she didn't expect to see several bodyguards behind her.
This time, her heart stopped beating.
"Young Miss, you have to come with us."
"Don't be scared, Young Miss. We're here to show you the way to your room."
"Young Miss, do quick and come with us."
The bodyguards looked to be coercing her, but Lily could sense the sinister smiles behind their gentle expressions.
They thought she was stupid. Everyone thought she was stupid.
After finding out Clark and Sara's true colors minutes ago, she had a feeling that these bodyguards were only here to make the couple's mission fast.
Otherwise, why would they follow her to the rooftop when they weren't even on the top floor minutes ago?
...
"M-Mr. Sy, It is not that way. I- I mean, you won't find the Young Master on this floor." The hotel's Manager was having a mental breakdown as he scurried after the man.
Knowing that he would be dead meat if he dared let this scary man know the Young Master's whereabouts, he could only coax him, despite having the urge to flee from him.
"M-Mr. Sy-"
The man stopped walking, causing the Manager to almost bump into his back.
Lifting his hand in the air, the Manager cowered, fearing the man would hit him. It turned out he was only giving orders to the other men behind them.
One would not call them bodyguards because they looked more like gangsters. With rippling muscles, revealing scary tattoos, one man could crush the Manager with a single snap.
The Manager who feared for his life quickly stepped aside. He regretted letting the Young Master use this hotel as his hideout. Who knew this dangerous man would come looking for him himself?
His presence was already scaring off most of the customers. An important occasion was also going on which was the wedding preparation of the only heiress of this hotel.
If Mr. Sy scared off all the guests, the hotel would have a bad reputation. And the Manager could also lose his job.
"Nuisance. Get him out of my sight." Without turning around, the man waved his hand and said in a lazy tone.
The Manager did not get to react. One of the tattooed men hurled him by his collars and simply tossed him aside as if he weighed nothing.
Seeing that his life was about to be implicated, the Manager scrambled up and dashed off. He could only pray for the Young Master.
"Mr. Sy, could the Manager be right?" Said one of the men. "We have checked all the floors in this hotel and also seen the surveillance footage. If the Young Master was here, we would have found him already."
"Hehe," The man chuckled and even the tattooed guys couldn't help but take some steps back. Turning around, his eyes glinted and his lips curved into a sinister smile. "Since when did you become dumb?"
The tattooed guys lowered their gazes.
"If I didn't know he was here, why would I gamble my precious time?" He placed a hand on a nearby doorknob and turned it. "Maybe I should recruit competent men. It appears you're tired of your job."
"We are sorry, Mr. Sy."
"Please overlook our mistake."
"Mr. Sy is the most clever. Forgive us for doubting your intelligence."
The man's hand left the doorknob and he smirked. Out of nowhere, the door flung open and someone flew out like a bird let out of its cage. Like a flash, that person darted down the hallway.
"After him."
The tattooed men were too startled. They couldn't close their mouths. It was only when their Master gave the order that they broke out of their shocks. While they chased after the Young Master, the man leaned by the wall and lit a cigarette.
Minutes later, his calm expression transformed into an impatient look and he straightened up. Following the path they took, he soon arrived at a rooftop.
"Mr. Sy, he jumped." One of the men told him.
.
Lily's breath caught in her throat, watching the horrible scene in front of her. The bodyguards were still coaxing her to follow them when a man came suddenly with three scary men chasing after him. Then the man jumped from the rooftop as if possessed.
The bodyguards' bodies were trembling after seeing what just happened. They were more shocked when the last man appeared.
Only a few didn't know him in this city. A cut-throat billionaire who was notorious for destroying anyone that crossed him.
The bodyguards had just seen it with their own eyes. They couldn't linger there and they instantly took to their heels, even forgetting the girl. If the Young Miss happened to become Mr. Sy's victim, their jobs would only get easier.
His eyes settled on her and for some unknown reason, Lily had the desire to also jump down the rooftop.
If even the bodyguards were afraid of these men, who were they?
"Mr. Sy, I think our job here is done." One of the tattooed men said.
"Of course." The man finally took his eyes off her. "Such a coward. Not a worthy opponent."
Lily watched the men walk away and her heartbeat eased down. Despite growing up in this city, she had never seen these men before. She never even got to step out of the mansion all because of her uncle's orders.
Who was this Mr. Sy?
